Read John 1:1-5

John opens his Gospel by taking us back before creation itself. Before there was a world, before there was time, before there was light, the Word already existed. Jesus was not simply born in Bethlehem—He has always been. He was with God, and He was God. This incredible truth reminds us that our faith is not built on a wise teacher or inspiring leader, but on the eternal Son of God.

John tells us that everything was made through Him. Every mountain, every ocean, every star in the sky exists because of Christ. Yet the Creator of all things chose to step into His own creation so that we could know Him personally. The One who spoke light into existence would one day walk among people living in spiritual darkness.

Verse 4 says, “In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.” The world offers many substitutes for life—success, possessions, relationships, or achievement—but none of them can truly satisfy the deepest need of the human heart. Real life is found in Jesus alone. He brings forgiveness to the guilty, hope to the discouraged, purpose to the wandering, and peace to the anxious.

Perhaps the most encouraging statement comes in verse 5: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” Darkness always seems powerful until light appears. A single candle changes a dark room. The sunrise ends the longest night. In the same way, no amount of sin, suffering, fear, or evil can extinguish the light of Christ. His light continues to shine today.

Today, remember who Jesus is. He is the eternal Word, the Creator, the source of life, and the Light that no darkness can overcome. Whatever you are facing, His light is still shining. Trust Him to guide your steps, strengthen your faith, and remind you that His victory is already certain.
